I recently produced and shot a video for my wife’s and my business, Soul Holistic Center, based in Hout Bay, South Africa, focusing on our Winter Solstice which took place on the 21 June 2026.

I was inspired by the most amazing movie, Train Dreams, which was shot at sunrise/sunset and crafted with the beautiful nature and landscapes on the location…we are blessed to live in Hout Bay (Afrikaans for Wood Bay) which has beautiful walks and farms…all in a small community around the corner from the bustling Cape Town.

The film shows the meaning of the Solstice to me and how the energy of the day and evening bring us sentimental feelings and some hope for the return of summer (it’s out coldest time of the year here). My research show the traditional solstice is a time of reflection and remembering those who we have lost, embracing the darkness as a balance to the bright sunlight…which shows us some deeper positive spaces and thoughts in our lives. The final act is my dream of the light and summer to come, bringing us through the dark night and towards warmth and a new year ahead.
